Colouring

Colouring is an art rather than a science. By that we mean that each of us sees colour in our own personal way. Whilst we all know what we mean by red or blue we may disagree over what constitutes salmon pink or sky blue! Thus Fotofun's colourisation techniques will only ever be an approximation of what the original colours were. There is no scientific way that colour can be deduced from a black & white image. However, at Fotofun we pride ourselves on our skill at producing results which are believable and as lifelike as we can make them. But don't take our word for it. Judge for yourselves.

This photo of a young woman was in pretty good condition despite being over 50 years old so it only required a small amount of restoration before the colour could be added. As we added the various layers of colour the photo began to take on a new persona. Our client amazingly recalled the dress being just as she remembered it.... despite the fact that this was an educated guess on our part!

This was basically a straightforward attempt to turn an old black and white family snapshot into a colour photograph. The family had piled into the old Mini Countryman and spent the day at their favourite seaside resort, Weston-Super-Mare. The addition of colour certainly makes the day seem much more bright and sunny. Just like all summer days were back then!
